A Selfless Selfish Call

30 days to go and this is what I am thinking about! Over the weekend before the time of my penning down, I heard from a preacher friend of mine and one of our patrons at The Instruments, Pr Mochoge. He delivered the word at my brother’s wedding and brought it clearly the issue of husbands and wives submitting one to another. More often it’s the woman submitting kind of talk we get when Ephesians 5 is discussed. However, at the very start of this subject in verse 21 it’s the keynote start to the address. “Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of the Lord.” Mmmmmh. It got me thinking to take a deeper look into the passage. And lo! I was opened up to a study I never took before, especially now. This explains my write today. This is what is on my mind. My marriage to my fiancée, my best friend, my equal and my love. Days running up to any kind of wedding are crazy days. One can easily pass out from anything. Especially thoughts and running up and down. You see, Loise and I have had crazy times for the past few days and […]

How Does God Promise?

Posted on Leave a commentPosted in Faith, Life

A writer once wrote, if you want to be a writer, write. It’s been a while since I pieced together my thoughts. I took sometime this Sabbath to have a moment with God. (Written in February 2017) I must say as a Christian, the walk hasn’t been easy. I haven’t done so well. And I know I would do better. So today I took a pause and chose not to be predictable and normal with my Sabbath errands. But this weekend had long painted as different from the others since last weekend. Much was to happen. But God has his plans. So as I pen down today’s piece, that’s my current state. Dressed up but not going out. Rested and refreshed. Hanging out with my brother. Big brother. So as I laid this morning on the couch, an easy day, I turned to a sermon by Randy Skeete: God and God Alone. It would be my third time to listen to it. You can find it on lavingtonsda.org. I had had quite some heavy breakfast and heard lots of music. And as noon was drawing in I fell asleep somewhere between listening to the sermon and it’s close. Not to […]

The Higher Calling

Posted on 8 CommentsPosted in Life

So something has been running in my mind for quite some time now. And it dwells on Contentment and Godliness. In almost all spheres of life there’s something called a rat race. A vicious cycle from which we seem to never escape from. Maybe a few do but many get stuck in one or another. But today I will focus on relationships. Yes, relationships. So, a while back I got myself asking like any other Maboyz would do, where am I headed to with this marriage thing. Nothing seems concrete and yet for sure 2016 has been trending with weddings! Personally the costs I incurred was much but never will I regret standing by my friends. While it would have been a down payment for some investments, I believe I did put a good investment on relationships. Friends that money can’t buy. I thank God for the experience. But that’s not what am writing about. No. It’s about the tragedy we getting ourselves into. There are many virtuous women and equally blessed men. But getting to connect the two has bore many heart breaks and disappointments. Personally and many young people hate these experiences, unfortunately we still meet them with […]

When you expect so little

When I went to bed last night, I had much that I couldn’t resolve in my mind. I remembered the words I had shared with a few of my friends that evening and still much remained to desire for tomorrow. I mean, the normal stuff would well fit an excitement to think of tomorrow but still something lacked. I wouldn’t share much what it was in my mind. Personal. I slept quite late. I thanked God for the Sabbath and quickly sleep took over. When morning was yet to break, I woke up but still lazy to get up for prayer and so I reasoned with God and somehow found a reason to pray casually. Bad move. I then read through the devotional while tightly tacked in my bed. Up to now am sure you’re wondering what’s so special about what am writing. Keep calm. Read on. By all reasons, this morning was heavy on me. I had no taste for huge congregations. I toyed with the thought of having a “home church”. Perhaps I would then have good time to think over what’s really in my mind and come to some worthy conclusion and resolve with Jermin. Even as […]

Father’s Day

To all men who helped a child’s life grow one step higher. To all the men that loved their wives and cared for them. To all men that a child looks at and tears of joy blur their eyes. To all the men that have never discriminated a child because of anything not of their choice. May LOVE follow you all the days of your lives. So, growing up for my brothers and I hasn’t been all flowers. We had to be put into situations hard enough for a child early in life. And I have a few friends whom we share such stories. It’s such days that I remember all the men figures that built the man I am and those that helped a long to see my brothers and I relate to who men are. It’s so easy to lose identity and love if one’s childhood isn’t well catered for. And so today I remember these men: The late Mr. Ahoya, my primary school headteacher who introduced computer studies for the first time in a public school. For this reason, I took part in the first ever exhibition at the ASK show on the power of computers in […]

Amazing Grace. Amazing Love

Posted on Leave a commentPosted in Faith

Today I write: That one day, just one day; we all shall see this LOVE and be turned to it with an undivided LOVE and OBEDIENCE. That we will realize how much of the worry we burn our nerves for is like: a dot compared to a boundless, shore-less, limitless, depth-less, immeasurable and endless blessings promised in eternity. For as much as it takes God’s power to create and sustain life (which by every measure is costly); it had to take the death of God to save even one mankind. Now that’s how expensive salvation is. Its not cheap by any measure. (How about this conversation) Buyer: I need some salvation. Seller: Do you have enough cash for it? Buyer: How much? Seller: Calculate the cost of creating a universe, add life to it and sustain it even for a minute. Buyer: That’s a lot! (Surprised) Seller: And that’s not all. Multiply that by the cost of one life by the thousands and billions that has lived and passed through the earth if not all the other planets that life exists. Still this doesn’t compare to even a piece of the total cost… Buyer: Then what’s the cost? Seller: It costs […]

Jesus’ words on the account of Lazarus

Posted on Leave a commentPosted in Faith

So today I looked at the words of Jesus in the account of Lazarus’s death: KJV John 11:4, 7, 9, 10, 11, 14, 15, 16, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 34, 35, 39, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44 4 When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby. (Its God’s desire to reveal to us His glory. In our sickness even troubles and weakness, He stands with us. So when we experience these heartbreaking situations, give thanks to God. Its still for our own good) 7 Then after that saith he to his disciples, Let us go into Judaea again. (Jesus never put His interest first. Even though He would have had to face death by the Jews in Judea) 9 Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world. 10 But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him. (Work while it is day for night cometh. He that does not have light in him […]

Marriage and Spirituality

Posted on Leave a commentPosted in Faith

Marriage is hugely Spiritual as many might not agree. Reading KJV Ephesians 5:21 – 30 clearly, and with deepness of thought counsels on marriage and as Paul starts, he says,”21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.” The fear of the Lord should guide and rule your respect to each other. And as he continues in v22, “22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. 24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.” He clearly points out the position and roles of each party and how respect should be accorded and why it should be accorded. In v25-29 he points out to the husband, “25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; 26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, 27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, […]

Lessons from pictures

Posted on Leave a commentPosted in Uncategorized

Pictures do speak a thousand words. We can all agree on that. But in photography a moment makes the difference of how many words you speak in a picture. Even so, not just time decide the words to speak but the target. Whereas nature gives you all the time, men on the other hand are quite impatient and within a few seconds of posing will start complaining. From this aspect of photography, I learn that the kind of business you take up has different demands and different periods of patience. Some may be unforgiving. Then again there is the tool you are using. It might be the best lens money can buy but on hands that don’t understand the power it has. It might be the best ideas by a photographer, but poor lenses. It can be a mix of both great ideas and tools but unfavorable subjects or environment. From this, I learn a great lesson. Capital might give you the best tools needed in business but if these are not well met with the right human capital, no one will understand the deficiencies. They both will be a bad picture. A bad business. Then there is time. Time […]
